Flip Happy

I had lost my USB cord for a bit, which is why these are so late in being posted. My roommate, Bethany, our friend Marissa, Jason and I drove up to Austin over Columbus Day weekend for a day. Marissa, Jason and I ran 8 miles that morning and then busted it to get ourselves ready to spend a day up there. The goal...eat some YUMMY crepes and visit IKEA (angel chorus please). Bethany wanted to pick up some storage items and the rest of us wanted crepes and love IKEA. Marissa had been talking about a place called "Flip Happy" since she saw it on "Throwdown with Bobby Fay"(sp?). It truly lives up to it's reputation of beating Bobby Fay and was worth the hour and fifteen minute drive. It's located in an empty lot and the ladies who run it work out of a fifties-style silver trailer. There are lots of picnic tables and lawn chairs set-up with various games available while you wait. Which is good because the line was about six people deep and didn't go down any as we waited and then ate our delicious crepes.

IKEA was overwhelming and fun, as usual. We filled Jason's trunk, which made him feel a bit used, so we made it up to him by buying him a drink while watching the sunset over a lake.

So, enjoy the pics and look forward to some pumpkin carving ones soon.

Baton Rouge Wedding

Last weekend Jason and I drove to Baton Rouge for his best friend's sister's wedding...got that? :) We left at 5 am Saturday morning and made it there for lunch. It was odd to attend a wedding where, essentially, I know no one but my date and have just met his parents. It was fun, but we were exhausted by 7:40 that night and left early...it seriously felt like 11 pm. We stayed with his Grandfather and his wife, Barbara. They are dear people and made me feel right at home. On Sunday Jason gave me a tour of his life via a 7 mile run...I saw his kinder-room, elementary school, middle school, hometown church, various houses his family members have lived in, and then he drove me downtown that evening for a quick tour of Baton Rouge.

I took Monday off so we could take our time driving back. We stopped in Houston and visited with Erin, Brian, and Micaiah for a couple of hours. I've wanted to see Micaiah for so long...before she becomes a toddler! We couldn't stay for long, but it was enough time for me to read a story to her--she sat on my lap for a little bit, but it didn't last quite as long as I'd like it to, but I'll live. Maybe over Thanksgiving I can see her long enough for her to warm up to me. :)

Order and Uniqueness

I've been looking at a lot of blogs concerning design...actually, for awhile I'd say I was obsessed with reading them on a daily basis. Perhaps because I felt as though I had no control over the order of my own life...right after the news of Jason's pending reassignment--which is official now. The truth is, I love order, I love having everything in it's place. However, the reality is that I can't seem to always find a way to keep everything in order all the time. I also love finding unique cards, jewelery, whatever it might be. Hence the blogs at the bottom of my blogroll concerning design. I don't know these people, but I love reading their blogs on a regular basis and then jumping from their blogs to other blogs. Which is where I found this stationary website and this card. Enjoy! I just felt like sharing.

Homecoming 2008

Dress-up days, end of the day activities, court nominations, and then finally, the culmination of months of prep and love--the DANCE! "Under The Sea" went off without a hitch. It was one of the best homecoming weeks and dance set-ups I've ever had in my six years as advisor for Student Council. I went into the week, admittedly, not wanting to do it, not wanting to care, really, I just wanted to be a teacher and not worry. However, I have once again been blessed with some outstanding students who worked hard, took care of business, and did a fantastic job taking ownership of the week. The dance was great--Jason helped set-up on Saturday and then helped chaperone as well. He was very good at spotting boys with their hands lower on girls backs then they should be. :) Very helpful! I was exhausted the next day. I went to bed a little after midnight and got up at 8:30--it looked like I had been out partying till 7 am. I took all of Sunday as a rest day and felt a little better on Monday. All in all, a fantastic time.

Diet coke, every advisor's vice.

Fall Indeed

This is what October looks like in San Antonio--GREEN!
